Marina Villani is a glass artist who has a studio in Kilmore – Myriad Glass Studio, started in 2004. The studio and Marina have since become an integral part of the Kilmore community. Her Studio hosts lessons to students wanting to learn the art of making glass jewellery, glass slumping and mosaics. All the equipment is available for use by her students and it doesn’t take long before newcomers are able to produce wonderful items of their own under her tuition.
Marina is a regular at the large Craft Markets at Red Hill, Yarra Glen, Flemington and Hanging Rock. Many commissions have been undertaken, for example, in 2011 the Mitchell Shire commissioned a gift to sister city, Honbetsu, in Japan, entitled “Distant Lands ‘neath Single Sun Entwined”.
Another dimension to Myriad Glass is coach tours. Busloads of visitors come to the studio to see a
demonstration and buy direct from the studio. School Holiday programs are also run for kids.
Marina has a display and sales table at the Kilmore Art Expo each April displaying irresistable hand made jewellery and glass giftware. It is one of the Expo’s most popular attractions.
A quote from Marina is
No day is the same and no day is ever long enough. Gee I love what I do!
Some other commissions include an annual trophy of crossed cricket bats for the North Melbourne Cricket Club, in 2004, trophies for the Border Terrier Club Australia Wide competition, a fused studio glass art panel hanging in BHP house, Singapore, a commission for the Mitchell Shire entitled “Wandong Now and Then”, a steel and mosaic picnic table for the Wandong beautification project, also for Mitchell Shire, a picnic table entitled “Portrait of Pyalong”.
I hope these picnic tables are firmly bolted down or they would be immediately stolen!
These are just a few examples of commissions undertaken by Marina.
